PRISM² Group Rolls-Royce plc visit

The University of Birmingham's PRISM2 research group were invited to Derby on Friday 8th November, to visit Rolls-Royce plc staff - including materials, modelling and processing experts - to discuss the modelling work within the PRISM2 group.

Topics discussed included;

An overview of the group's aims and objectives under the direction of Professor Jeff Brooks and Dr Hector Basoalto,

  1. A discussion on the use of fast-solve simulation methods, which although sacrificing absolute accuracy can still give powerful trends in results - applicable to smaller companies.
  2. A modelling framework for the evolution of γ' in nickel-based superalloys.
  3. A multi-scale, multi-physics approach to the modelling of a fusion welding process.
  4. Simulation of various types of machining operations, applicable to a wide scope of industrial sectors.
  5. Multi-scale physics based modelling of alloys.

 

 

The event was very well-received by all involved, at both Rolls-Royce plc and the University of Birmingham. Plans to repeat this type of global meeting and discussion forum are ongoing, with a suggested cycle of 6-9 months.
