CASiM Launch Day

Wed 6th November

As a part of the CASiM2 project, the University has invested in the refurbishment of an area of the Net-shape building, becoming a new process and materials modelling office. As a part of the School of Metallurgy and Materials, the office provides the base for the University-located staff on the CASiM2 project, as well as a base for Staff members, PhD and Masters students within Metallurgy and Materials working on Manufaturing process modelling and materials modelling, and working on topics such as Rapid / Additive Manufacture, Welding and HIPping.

The new office provides a central location on the campus of the University of Birmingham, for staff from CASiM project partners Rolls-Royce plc and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) to use, and for SME companies within the West Midlands region to come and learn more about the techniques used within process and materials modelling, and to learn more about exciting new manufacturing processes such as Additive Manufacture.

The launch day went very well, and was attended by senior staff from all three project partners (Rolls-Royce plc, MTC and University of Birmingham), as well as attendees from local West Midlands companies with an interest in process and materials modelling.

As a funding partner within the CASiM collaboration, thanks are offered to the ERDF for their considerable financial support offered to the CASiM project as a whole.
