The CASiM² Collaboration

Tue 7th May

CASiM2 - The Centre for Advanced Simulation & Modelling for Manufacturing.

CASiM2 is a collaborative project between the University of Birmingham, Rolls-Royce plc, the MTC (Manufacturing Technology Centre, Ansty) and part funded by the ERDF. It is aimed at developing simulation and modelling techniques within the SME community in the West Midlands region. CASiM2 will be run as a series of 7 demonstrator activities to showcase the current simulation capabilities within the collaborative partners. These demonstrator activities will range from simulating manufacturing processes such as welding and HIP to simulating factory lay-out and work-chain.

The PRISM2 research group at the University of Birmingham will be leading the technology demonstrators for 4 of the 7 projects, namely:

Rotary Friction Welding

Fusion Welding

HIPping

Powder-based Additive Manufacture Methods.

The aim of the CASiM2 project is to allow the technology break-throughs in terms of manufacturing methods and simulation methods to be filtered down to the SME community in the West Midlands, to help these companies develop. The PRISM2 research group are very keen to hear from SME companies in the West Midlands region who work on one of these 4 manufacturing methods, and want to better understand how simulation can aid their business.

Points of contact at PRISM2 for the CASiM2 collaborative project are found here.
